A veneer is a thin piece of porcelain used to re-create the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. They are an option for correcting stained, chipped, decayed or crooked teeth. They are custom made to the contour of your teeth and are bonded to the tooth’s original enamel during a series of in-office procedures. The most commonly used material for veneers are the conventional porcelain veneer and Lumineers and composite resin veneers. Porcelain veneers are preferable for correcting issues of shape or color and with proper care can last for a long time. We recommend that you contact our practice to schedule a consultation with Dr. Vasani.

- Worn down teeth due to grinding (likely while sleeping)
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Misaligned, uneven or irregular teeth
- Teeth with gaps between them
Advantages of Veneers?
Veneers offer the following advantages:
- They provide a natural tooth appearance.
- Gum tissue tolerates porcelain well.
- Porcelain veneers are stain resistant.
- The color of a porcelain veneer can be selected such that it makes dark teeth appear whiter.
- Veneers allow you to modify your tooth’s color and shape.
Candidates For Veneers
Veneers can be right for just about any cosmetic dentistry patient. If you want to improve certain cosmetic shortcomings of your smile, porcelain veneers provide an effective, fast and painless way to create the smile you imagine yourself having. Patients with good oral hygiene and good tooth / bone structure are great candidates for Veneers. Patients with periodontal disease typically will require treatment prior to veneer treatment.
The Veneers Procedure
Like any dental procedure, Dr. Vasani will first give you an anesthetic to make you comfortable. Then she will reshape your teeth so that the veneers can fit properly.
If you have decided to use composite resin veneers, they will be applied layer by layer as necessary. Dr. Vasani will then polish the veneers to improve your smile.
Porcelain veneers require an impression of your teeth, from which a dental lab will make your dental veneers. Once the impression is taken, Dr. Vasani will fabricate a temporary in the office for you to wear while the final veneers are being made in the dental lab. Once your veneers are ready, Dr. Vasani will place them and adjust them so you have proper fitting teeth and the smile you requested.
Overall, your care for your veneers will be similar to how you care for normal teeth. You should brush and floss regularly, while also visiting us for your normal cleanings. Do not to bite or chew on hard objects that could crack or chip your veneers. You can avoid this by not chewing on things such as ice or hard candy. Though veneers have been shown to last many years, if porcelain veneers are broken they have to be replaced entirely.
